Free Babar Ahmad

We pledge our support for the unconditional and immediate release of Babar Ahmad, and we stand by him and his family and community as our own.

Babar is a British Citizen, born in Britain and with a British passport. Under no circumstances should he be extradited to the United States as there is no evidence of any wrongdoing.

Unless Babar is released, we will not co-operate with the security services as one of us could be the next target of an unjustified extradition to the United States. Our patience and goodwill is exhausted. We will not spy on our families, neighbours and friends. We will not respond to any requests from the intelligence services.

Given their treatment of Muslims in Guantanamo Bay and Abu Ghraib prison amongst other places, we have no trust in the United States to treat Muslims with justice and fairness. We therefore utterly condemn the decision of the Home Secretary to extradite Babar to a hostile foreign power.

If Babar is extradited then it will be difficult to avoid the conclusion that innocent Muslims in Britain are now regarded not as British citizens, but as enemies who are not deserving of the protection of their country.
