Free Drs. Alaei

According to their mother, Drs. Kamiar and Arash Alaei have been arrested since late June 2008 by the authorities in Tehran. The two prominent physician, humanists, and researcher had pioneered in helping the most disadvantaged patient population infected with HIV in their native city Kermanshah, the largest Kurdish city in Iran. Dr. K. and A. Alaeis innovative clinical strategies and contributions had reached beyond the borders of his native country to public health circles around the globe.

The original scientific contributions such as Triangular Clinic Model, authorship of scholarly articles in professional journals, participation as panelists or abstract reviewer in international conferences, association in an essential capacity by organizations with a distinguished reputation, e.g., World Heath Organization, Asia Society, Harvard School of Public Health and the Ford Foundation are evidence of recognition of Alaeis work.

A possible reason for the arrest of the two brothers might be related to their contacts with the international communities around the world, some of which might have opposed the Iranian government. They have presented their medical work to various communities regardless of political orientation and had kept a healthy distance from politic. However, this might not be sufficient for the authorities in Tehran.

By signing this petition we appeal to the Amnesty International to do everything it its capacity to determine the whereabouts of Drs. Kamiar and Arash Alaei and pressure the Iranian government to release them immediately.
