FREE FOR STUDENT ORGANIZATION FEE!
Dear AusAID club member,
I think all of you were aware that you have been noticed by uni that the enrollment process this year would be different. The major different is in the first step of enrollment, we should mention our expression of interest in membership of studentorganization (student union, postgrade association, and melb uni sport).
Moreover, this notification is followed by Lucia letter to inform that AusAID will no longer pay membership fee of student organization. As it state in membership of student organization brochure, the cost of joining all student organization are about $800. It is clear that from this year, if we interested to join those student organizations we will have to pay around $800.
From my personal view, this policy will decrease my quality of life as an on going student since I am a big fan of activities and luxury facilities from those organizations. Moreover, this policy will make us as a second class student since we cannot pay this fee as our stipend is not suppose to allocate for this kind of expenses.
AusAID club executive committees have already concerned regard this matter, as we have a meting with Lucia after the notification from the uni. Unfortunately, Lucia confirmed that the policy has been already taken that AusAID will not cover the fees. We also have showed and stated our disappointment about the policy to Lucia and we will write an appeal letter to AusAID executive in Canberra.
AusAID club also suggested Lucia to adopt the fee scheme of SGS up skill program. The scheme is allowed AusAID student to register to the short course that suit them and AusAID will pay the fee according to student application. I think this scheme is quiet reasonable since I heard in Perth, AusAID cover students union fees, even though the VSU was already there. Unfortunately, again, Lucia did not agree with our suggestion.
I think the strongest force to make AusAID changes the policy is come from your voice. If Lucia did not hear your complaint then she or AusAID may think that you have no problem with that policy. So, please raise your voice, sent email to Lucia, forward this email to other AusAID students, and ask your rights and demand for free student organisation fees!
