An Arklow farmer before the courts for an alleged breach of the peace has declared that he is a prisoner of war, after being 'militarily overthrown by builders'.
And James Tallon, who lives in a house called 'Glasnost' on the Emoclew Road, has told Judge Donnchadh O Buachalla that under the terms of the Geneva Convention, he has to supply only details of his 'name, rank, and creamery number'.
Tallon is accused of threatening a building site foreman and throwing stones at a digger on a site that was sold by other members of his family. He chose to represent himself in court, where he declared he comes from the 'Independent Republic of Glasnost', but has been the victim of a military coup.
He was first brought to New Ross District Court last week following the alleged offenes on September 11, and was remanded in custody to Clover Hill for a week after refusing to sign a bail bond.
When he appeared before Wicklow Court on Tuesday though, he was unperturbed at the thought of spending more time behind bars, as he had already thanked the Judge for providing him with 'an enjoyable week's holiday in Clover Hill'.
'It's my first holiday since 1997,' he declared.
Tallon was again remanded in custody and is to appear before Rathdrum District Court today 21/09/06 (Thursday).
