-- Nobel Prize Winner Albert Einstein, on Mohandas K. Gandhi
When the private sector and organized labor work together to promote growth and job opportunities we will all reap the benefits of the unity espoused by Gandhi."
-- Nobel Peace Prize Winner Nelson Mandela
" The awarding of the prize to me, a simple monk from Tibet here in Norway, also fills us Tibetans with hope...It is also a tribute to my mentor, Mahatma Gandhi, whose example is an inspiration to so many of us."
-- Nobel Peace Prize Winner His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama
He is thought by many to be the Father of the Modern Peace Movement as we have come to know it
His teachings of passive resistance and peaceful resolution to violent conflict laid the groundwork for such luminaries as Martin Luther King Jr., Archbishop Desmond Tutu, The Dalai Lama, Wangari Maathai and Nelson Mandela
His life has inspired a host of Nobel Peace Prize winners, all of which pay direct homage to his message in their acceptance speeches
And yet, the man himself, was NEVER honored with a Nobel Peace Prize in his lifetime, despite being short-listed for the award a sum total of 5 times.
Together, we can change this.
Join us in our quest to convince the Nobel Committee in Oslo to amend their statute concerning posthumous nominations, and finally grant (Mahatma) Mohandas K. Gandhi the Nobel Prize for Peace that eluded him in his lifetime.
With enough support from the public sector (our goal: 1 million signatures worldwide), we will approach those foundations, educational institutions and public officials who can nominate potential recipients, and offer up our collective case in time for Mohandas K. Gandhi to be awarded his posthumous Nobel Peace Prize nomination on the year of India's 60th anniversary of independence (2007).
A vote for Gandhi is more than merely overdue and much-deserved award recognition.
It is a global collective bid that peaceful resolution to violent conflict is still, and always will be - a cause worth standing for.
