Gays and Straights for Equal Rights

We, the undersigned, are united, regardless of sexual orientation, to the legalization of Gay Marriage immediately. We recognize that homosexuality is not a personal choice. We recognize that acts by the government to ban Gay Marriage are clear violations of the rights of Gays and Lesbians to equal protection under the law. We recognize further that there are some who oppose Gay Marriage on religious grounds. We respect the right of a person to hold their own religious views. These religious views, however, should not have an influence on the affairs of the government. We are not advocates of forcing private groups to recognize Gay Marriage in the context of their religious beliefs, we simply ask that the government extends Gays and Lesbians equal status under the law. Gay Marriage must be legalized now.
