Re: Desperate Housewives
We are writing to express concern about people with no sense of humour who have waged a totally ridiculous online war against the TV series Desperate Housewives. In one scene, the character of Susan was upset by a comment from her gynecologist and replied, "Can I just check those diplomas because I just want to make sure that they are not from some med school in the Philippines."
The remark was not discriminatory nor hurtful. It wasn't unfounded, inconsiderate or derogatory. IT WAS FUNNY!
Television has been full of humor pointed at ethnic, religious, geographic, cultural and any other groups since its inception. And before that, it was radio.
If you don't like the show, don't watch. Just don't tell the rest of the world they have to adhere to your set of standards as to what constitutes discrimination.
In a magnanimous gesture, ABC extended an apology that was totally unnecessary. So they've said "Sorry." Now get over it!
