Get Rid of the SAT and PSAT

We, the undersigned, find that the Scholastic Aptitude Test, from hereon known as the SAT is an unfair test that does not test the knowledge of a certain individual but rather tests how well that individual can prepare and/or be trained for the nature of the test.

Students' parents shell out big bucks to learning centers run by companies such as Kaplan and The Princeton Review. While these programs cost upwards of one thousand dollars, they are not designed for a student to learn anything from them. They are designed to be repititve, to drill certain test taking techniques into an individuals mind. By repitition of the same type of test, students learn how to get around their lack of knowledge of the subject at hand by using techniques learned in these programs.

While the wealthier students gain this huge advantage in preparation for the SAT, those who are not as fortunate are not able to take these specially designed programs and hence do not fair as well once they take the actual test. Some may suggest that these students at a disadvantage purchase SAT preparation books but they do not nearly provide the same effect as programs run by Kaplan, etc. do. In addition, these students at a disadvantage do not have the resources to continue retaking the SAT to obtain a higher score. This is easily seen by the lopsided distribution between students of wealthy background and those of middle class or lower background.

Therefore, I am calling on The College Board to either revise the SAT and make it so that no one person can have an unfair advantage over other students or completely drop the test and favor the more concentrated SAT II exams. The SAT just does not work anymore and should not be administered until it becomes a fair test for each and every student who takes it.
