Awaiting with excitement the unfolding of the Beijing Olympic Games, the undersigned would like to express our full support of the Beijing Olympic Games as well as of the International Olympic Committee in its decision to attribute the 2008 Summer Games to Beijing.
As an expression of our support, those of us living near Lausanne, the Olympic Capital, will assemble peacefully before the Olympic Museum and the IOC headquarters on the 25th of May in order to have our voices heard:
We support the Beijing Olympic Games and we cherish the Olympic values and the Olympic spirit!
The Olympic Games are a sports event and have nothing to do with politics. As a symbol of peace and goodwill, the Olympic flame belongs to people of the world and the torch relay should be allowed to take place peacefully.
The Olympic Games offer a chance to people from different cultures, races and religions to get together and celebrate. A billion Chinese people have opened their arms and invited the world. The International Olympic Committee (IOC)s attribution of the 2008 Summer Games to Beijing, China was a meaningful milestone in the history of the Olympic Movement. With this attribution, IOC has given a nation with one-fifth of the humanity and a culture of 5000 years an opportunity to communicate first hand with the rest of the world.
Promoting mutual-understanding will ultimately promote the progress of the entire humanity. IOCs effort in this is appreciated by people of the world. The achievements of the Olympic Movement this time will once again be acknowledged by History.
Finally, we would like to thank you, Mr Rogge, for enduring the pressure and unjustified criticisms on behalf of the athletes and the common Chinese people and people of the world. Because you know, all they want and all they have done are to look forward to the Olympic Games for competition and celebration.
Let us share with you our firm belief: the Olympic values will triumph and the Olympic Games will be forever more successful!
