Harriet Ross Tubman provided sanctuary to those who risked their lives to make this "Illegal" journey to freedom. The Underground Railroad helped hundreds of thousands of African Slaves begin new lives after fleeing from Slavery in the South.
During her lifetime she made nineteen (19) trips, personnally liberating over three hundred (300) of her People despite a Forty Thousand Dollar ($40,000) Bounty/Reward for her capture.
A monument in Auburn, NY A History of Harriett Ross Tubman stands today in mute testimony to a woman of Indomitable Will. She truly is a "Moses" of her People. She lead her People out of the land of Egypt, out of the House of Bondage and into the land of Canaan. She never stopped seeking to make meaningful, "The Promise of Freedom".
Harriet Ross Tubman was commissioned by Governor Andrew of Massachusetts to act as a spy, scout and sometimes nurse for the Union Army. The United States Government commissioned her without any enumerations other than "twenty (20) days rations."
