Harsher Punishments For Sexual Offenders

For centuries, sexual assault has been an all too common occurrence. It is not uncommon to turn on the news and hear about the most recent rape and murder victim or even overhear about such happenings inside a high school class-room. It's becoming an every day thing. Some people are subjected to assault and rape constantly, especially if the person doing so is perhaps a father or relative. The effects that such actions can have on a person are endless. It feeds away at a person's dignity until there is simply nothing left but an empty and emotionless shell. Rape is easily one of the most disgusting and grotesque things that a person can experience, it ruins lives and sometimes even whole families.

But what is done to those who are prosecuted and proven guilty over such matters? Nearly nothing. Take for example, the Megan Kanka case. Megan was an eight year old girl who was raped and murdered by a neighbor. That single event shattered a family... but action did happen. Passed hand-to-hand, over 400,000 citizens signed a petition demanding immediate legislative action on the law that had to be written-Megan's Law. Within an unprecedented eighty-nine days, the New Jersey State Legislature passed Megan's Law. Megan's Law was most certainly an improvement for society, but I believe something more should be done. I strongly believe that a simple short sentence is not enough for the offenders of these crimes. These people are stains on our society and should be removed. The purpose of this petition is to gather a mass of individuals who believe that there must be a stricter sentence for child molesters and rapists.

We all know how harmful such things can be to a persons mind. This is something that an innumerable amount of people deserve. Lunatics who simply can not control their sexual urges should NOT be allowed to roam our society freely. They should be locked away, far from our children and families. What this country does is not enough, it needs stricter punishment for it's criminals.
