It is with great concern to the Citizens of Canada that terrorist Omar Khadr has returned to Canada and will be eligible for parole in 2013. We are concerned that his release into Canadian society will be a threat to our national security and that he will be an icon to home grown terrorists.
Khadr was previously in custody at Guantanamo Bay since he pleaded guilty to five war crimes charges (including providing support to terrorism, spying and murder) which were brought before a U.S. military tribunal in 2010. He was convicted for murder in the killing of US Sgt. 1st Class Christopher Speer in Afghanistan in July 2002 when Omar was 15 years old.
It is no surprise that Omar fell into this lifestyle considering his family history. Omar Khadr spent most of his life moving back and forth between Canada and Pakistan in a family sympathetic to Islamic extremism, suspected links to al Qaeda and hostility to the Canadian way of life. While many Canadian boys were learning to play hockey, Omar learned to make bombs, attended al Qaeda training camps and met with Osama Bin Laden.
It is quite evident that terrorist Omar Khadr has been indoctrinated beyond rehabilitation through his family connection alone. Forensic Psychiatrist Dr. Michael Welner who examined him for eight hours during interviews in 2010, indicated that Khadr is “highly dangerous” and is at “a high risk of dangerousness as a radical jihadist”.
We must ensure that Omar Khadr must not be released into Canadian society ever. We must also ensure our safety from terrorists like him. The only way that this is achievable is if Omar were to stay in the prison system for the rest of his life. We are petitioning that the Canadian and/or Ontario government will have Omar Khadr tried for high treason as the Criminal Code states that a person can be charged with high treason if he or she "assists an enemy at war with Canada, or any armed forces against whom Canadian Forces are engaged in hostilities, whether or not a state of war exists between Canada and the country whose forces they are."
