We, the undersigned, support the continuation of the Goose Creek Historic District, and support historic districts generally as an important tool in protecting historic resources and the extensive economic, social, and cultural benefits they bring to communities.
The creation of an Historic District is a carefully-crafted, public zoning action intended to protect and enhance areas with special character or historic interest that reflect the county's cultural, social, economic, political, architectural or archaeological history.
For that reason, we do not believe that adding provisions allowing select property owners to opt out of these protected districts is compatible with their purpose or serves the public good.
