Permitting new build only for local need effectively creates a sustainable local housing market defined by local salaries, where natural market forces will create long-term affordable housing on a sustainable basis.
People wishing to move to these communities will be able to do so by competing for existing housing stock, and will thus avoid accidentally helping to create a non-local housing market that helps to destroy the very communities in which they wish to live.
