iBOT for the Wounded Troops

Designed by Segway inventor, Dean Kaman, the $25,000 iBOT mobility device offered the greatest step towards independence for a paraplegic or quadriplegic that our organization has seen. With a significant number of veterans returning from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan with severe spinal cord injuries, the Independence Fund found it disturbing that the iBOT was not being provided to these heroes and made it a core policy to provide as many of these wounded heroes with the device as possible. The Independence Fund provided twenty iBOT devices to severely injured veterans before the device manufacturers parent company, Johnson and Johnson, closed the program entirely.

We would like to challenge the political leadership with the task of living up to the rhetoric of "nothing but the best for our wounded" by seeing them not only reinstate the manufacturing of this American made product but the issuance of the product to deserving veterans through the military healthcare system.
