INDIAN NAVY SHOULD KINDLY REDUCE PERCENTAGE CRITERIA AND CUTOFF MARKS FOR DIRECT ENTRY ; OR NORMALIZE THE MARKS OF ALL CANDIDATES SO AS TO PUT EACH OF THEM ON THE SAME PLATFORM.

This petition has been made so as to make the ministry of defence and the defence forces ( ' specially the INDIAN NAVY ' ) aware of the fact that Each and Every Educational University (Government or Private) has different marking system. While some universities provide marks more generously to their students , others dont.

I have done ENGINEERING from MUMBAI UNIVERSITY. I want to bring this to your notice that all the students from Mumbai University are suffering due to the different marking schemes of different universities all over India.

By different marking schemes I mean, that Mumbai University (including few other universities) is giving lesser marks compared to other universities due to difference in marking scheme. The FIRST DIVISION in Mumbai University is 60% and the Distinction is 70% in graduation. Where as in most of the other universities throughout India, the FIRST DIVISION is 70% and Distinction is 80% if not more higher.

The universities give marks depending upon the percentage they set for First division and Distinction. Since the Percentage Mumbai University (including few other universities) sets for First division and Distinction is the lowest percentage set as compared to other universities, the students are being offered lower percentages as compared to students from other universities.

The average students from Mumbai University get an aggregate percentage of 60% if not lower in all years in graduation.  Whereas the students from other universities get an aggregate percentage of 75% - 82% if not more in all years of graduation. If you see a 75% or 80% looks more impressive and larger in comparison to a 60%.  Which is absolutely wrong because due to the different marking scheme, a student getting 60% from Mumbai University is equivalent to a student getting 75-80% from other universities all over India.

According to survey "MUMBAI UNIVERSITY(including few other) HAS THE MOST TOUGHEST SCORING AND MARKING SYSTEM IN INDIA".

The number of people getting 70% and above in mumbai university is around 1% of the lot.

Universities under the government  of india also have different marking system's. Different states have different marking systems. Not only the government universities even the private universities have different marking system's.

There should be a system of normalization so students of Mumbai University can compete with others on a level platform. Greater number doesn't mean higher percentage it just means different marking system.

While students from other universities SEEM TO get higher percentages in their graduation, we from Mumbai University(including few other) get lower percentage because our marking scheme is different from their universities marking scheme. In reality our percentage is on par with their but to the eyes of the layman the percentage offered by MUMBAI UNIVERSITY to its students seems to be lesser.

When I applied for INDIAN NAVY, I was rejected because the initial Cutoff percentage in the list for graduation was set around 75%(through research), which was shocking because no one gets that high aggregate percentage from Mumbai University in engineering. While other universities are lenient in giving marks as well as having different marking scheme Mumbai University is not, due to which we are always rejected.

A 60% IN GRADUATION FROM MUMBAI UNIVERSITY IS EQUIVALENT TO A 78% AN ABOVE PERCENTAGE FROM ANY OTHER UNIVERSITY IN INDIA.

Due to this each and every student from Mumbai University (including few other universities) is being rejected or not applicable for INDIAN NAVY or Defence or in other Jobs and Admission to Colleges. We are losing on our dreams. We are getting punished because of no reason. Let it be admission to Colleges or jobs we are always rejected based on our percentage and the students from other universities are picked up because their marks APPEAR to be higher than ours which is absolutely unfair and unacceptable.

Due to this we are facing Rejection in INDIAN NAVY and other Armed Forces as well as Colleges and  Jobs due to different marking schemes in universities(Government and private) all over India.

This has to be explained clearly to the INDIAN NAVY and other Armed Forces because it’s a blunder and a catastrophe. It is creating problems and its going un-noticed. Students are not working hard to get a 60% in Mumbai University and then being rejected over a student who got 78% from some other university. This should be rectified at the earliest. The Age limit and vacancy set for INDIAN NAVY and other ARMED FORCES is also set so low that we are running out of time and not getting enough opportunity.

We humbly request you to help us.

Kindly see into this matter.

Thank you for your patience.

Jai Hind
