Installation of Lighting at Hove Lagoon Skatepark

WE THE UNDERSIGNED hereby petition Brighton and Hove City Council to take action to place lighting at the skatepark facility at Hove Lagoon.
The skatepark has been in place for three and a half years now, and during that time has grown into the home of a large and vibrant community. The initial concerns raised by residents around the time of it's instalment, which I'm sure contributed to the exclusion of lighting in the first place, have a long time ago been proven false. The facility has always been a safe, family friendly place, that has attracted nothing but people simply wanting to enjoy it for what it was designed for.
Skateboarding is an all-year-round sport, but sadly no close by facilities provide lighting. For three winters now the skatepark has become nearly unusable to many, as it becomes too dark and unsafe to use by before 5 o'clock in the height of winter.
Lighting will make the park a safer place to use. It will not bring people to the skatepark any later at night than currently, as during summer it stays light enough to use until well after 9, and it can be set to switch off at a certain time (most skateparks with lighting will cut out at around 10pm). It will simply allow users to enjoy this amazing place all year round, as it should be. I cannot imagine a local tennis court being denied of lighting.
We ask you please to look to consider these points, and help out the many who enjoy this facility.
