It's time that these vehicles were banned from our towns and cities. Not only should they be subject to special licensing (like trucks) and increased registration fees (if not used specifically as off-road vehicles), they should also have mandatory features to reduce their risk to pedestrians and motorists. This should include : cameras to cover the increased blind spots caused by bulk and height. Sensors to alert the driver of nearby vehicles and pedestrians that cannot be seen, immobilising technology which prevents the vehicle from striking other vehicles and pedestrians, particularly when reversing. Mirrors allowing vehicles behind the 4WD to see other road users ahead. We have have seen enough children killed in driveways, enough ordinary vehicles destroyed and lives lost by these over sized monsters. They were never designed for urban roads, and it's now time to remove them for good. Though it would appear people drive these vehicles for their own safety, they are nothing but a danger to every other road user and pedestrian. They dramatically reduce road visibility for motorists and their own limited visibility and height causes many accidents due to their inability to observe other vehicles and road conditions.
