Joe Must Go -- Now!

Mr. Volpe,
As you well know, the Liberal Party of Canada is currently engaged in a comprehensive process of renewal that seeks to affirm and rejuvinate the progressive values that the Liberal party has always represented in the political fabric of our country while also reaching out at this time for a fresh, dynamic new vision of how the party can drive Canada ahead in the 21st century. By your actions in relation to the receipt of highly suspect donations from minors that would, from all appearances, have circumvented the governments campaign financing regulations, at least in the spirit (if not the letter) of the law, and by your subsequent dissembling and less than forthright defense of such inexcusable actions, we the undersigned strongly believe that you have forfeited your right to legitimately represent the Liberal Party of Canada as leader.

Accordingly, we therefore call on you to immediately withdraw your candidacy from this race. You have already caused untold harm the party as a whole by once again lividly resurrecting the taint of corruption from years gone by and your continued presence in the leadership race only serves to confirm the bleating cries of endemic corruption and malfeasance from our political opponents. Even pundits shake their heads in wonderment and conclude that we have learned absolutely nothing from the lessons of the past. You weakly claim that by returning a portion of the money you have attained a higher standard of moral probity, but we beg to differ. As they say, this is too little, too late. We the undersigned ask that you put your personal ambitions aside, think of the greater good of the party and do the right thing drop out of the leadership race and direct your efforts instead to working for the Party in a constructive role, rather than persevering in one of self-interest that only serves to corrode its future viability.
