We, the undersigned, feel that the dress code for Kaufman ISD is too strict and conflicts with our students First Amendment right to freedom of self-expression. We hereby request that the school board re-examine our current dress code and allow our students to have a more relaxed dress code which includes: shorts, printed tees, printed hoodies and outerwear instead of the currently mandated solid-color shirts/polos/outwear only. We are also requesting that belts not be mandatory unless they are necessary (otherwise they are nothing more than a mandatory accessory). We agree that KISD students will not wear anything that is offensive in either graphics or the manner that it is worn in (no sagging jeans or clothing that is too tight or revealing). We are asking that our students be allowed to try a new dress code on a trial basis, if necessary, to prove to school officials that they can be responsible in their choices of clothing without such a strict dress code. Thank you.
