Keep the City's Promise to JTS Northside Community Center

Our seniors, who have worked in the fields of Santa Clara County and other parts of California, formed the FilAmSODC, Inc., so they could enjoy their retirement years. When the old Northside Community Center became too small to accommodate the booming Filipino population, the City of San Jose's Master Plan on Aging allowed this award-winning center to be built.
FilAmSODC, Inc. is a growing organization. It must be allowed to make some mistakes as it makes the transition from a "mom and pop" non-profit organization to a professional community organization. On June 27, 2005 the City Council of San Jose voted 11-0 to give JTSNCC 18 months to meet the recommendations of the San Jose City Auditors' Report.
It has only been 5 months since the City Council made their decision. Certain public officials want to overturn that decision and have the City take control of the center. We must demand that the City honor their promise to JTSNCC and the Filipino community-at-large. We must retain the center's current management and its Filipino leadership. LET US REMEMBER THAT THE JTS NORTHSIDE COMMUNITY CENTER WAS ORIGINALLY BUILT FOR OUR FILIPINO AMERICAN SENIORS.
When the organization decided to become more inclusive so they could serve the seniors' families, the Filipino American World War II veterans, Indo-American community, and other ethnic, low income, at-risk groups, it showed that the Filipino community had grown and developed a vision of "building bridges and dreams" for everyone.
Please give our Filipino leadership at JTS Northside Community Center the 18 months it was promised so it can continue to be the inspiring beacon of hope to all those who will be celebrating the 100 years of Filipinos in America in 2006 and for years to come.
