In 2007, McDonald's Restaurants launched a campaign to change the definition of the term 'McJob', currently defined in the Oxford English Dictionary as an unstimulating, low-paid job with few prospects, esp. one created by the expansion of the service sector.

According to McDonald's, "this definition is out of date, out of touch with reality and most importantly is insulting to those hard-working, talented and committed people who serve the public every day in the UK. As the namesake for this derogatory term, this prejudice is felt most sharply by the 67,000 people who pursue careers and jobs at McDonalds in the UK."

However, we believe that the current definition is accurate, and reflects the true nature of a job provided by McDonald's Restaurants, and that while many of the employees may indeed be hard-working, talented, and committed, stating that the job that they do is not unstimulating or low-paid, or that it is with many prospects, is misleading to those in the service industry.
