Little Mountain Housing Redevelopment

BC Housing has started relocating tenants prior to a consultation process, without a plan for redevelopment or a guarantee that tenants can return to a comparable unit.
The Riley Park/South Cambie (RPSC) Community Vision, approved by City Council in 2005, contains Directions for public involvement in the development of large sites, which include LMH (see the back of this page).
There is a critical need for low-income, non-market housing in Vancouver. No existing housing should remain vacant or be demolished unnecessarily. LMH is a flourishing family-oriented community where people depend on each other for many needs, including child care; forcing tenants to relocate displaces an entire community.
Large projects around Nat Bailey Stadium and at Hillcrest Park, including an Olympic size Destination pool, Curling rink, etc., will bring a major influx of traffic, making the timing and scale of LMH redevelopment a matter of concern for the entire neighbourhood.
We, the undersigned, urge you to
1. Stop the relocation process until a plan for phased construction to minimize disruption and dislocation is in place.
2. Start the consultation and commit to a full, fair and open process that includes the community as an equal partner in all decisions affecting the sites redevelopment.
3. Adhere to the RPSC CityPlan Community Vision.
4. Achieve a mixed community with increased low-income housing.
