Marching Band Volunteers

Recently the Riverside Marching Band was told, by the Highschool Principal that they were NOT allowed to have volunteer support at any of of their events, such as practices and competitions. This has upset almost every student who chose to participate in the band. The fact is.. that the band's that we will be competing against have professional staff, specialized for each section. Before today (August 31, 2005) riverside had 5 volunter staff members. John Hoiser, as a drum instructor. Vicky Pallet as colorguard instructor. Donald Nesbitt as Marching Instructor. Lawrence Otreeba as drill instructor. And Stephanie Phillips as Assistant Band Director. This group volunteered their time and effort to help the Riverside Marching Band become better. I, for one, have noticed that since they have been helping us we have become much more proficient at not only our marching, but our muscianship. The progress that has been made over the past week is remarkable. But now we are left with just one instructor, our band director Mr. Phillips. The fact of the matter is ONE person cannot fulfill the job that it would normally take 10 people to do. We need our volunteer instructors back.
