Marylanders call for Tuition Freeze

Gubernatorial candidate Martin OMalley proposed a tuition freeze for the upcoming academic year, citing past tuition hikes and the current surplus as reasons why a 0\% tuition hike is realistic. A one year tuition relief is estimated to cost between $15 and $20 million and can be taken from the $1 billion state surplus or the state's rainy day fund.
It is in the best interests of students across the state that the Governor, Board of Regents and the General Assembly institute a tuition freeze by increasing funding to the system. We encourage passage of such legislation because it will be an important investment in the future of Maryland.
This petition urges the state leadership to freeze tuition at Maryland universities and colleges by increasing funding. It is not an attack or endorsement of any candidate.
