McCormick High School in McCormick, South Carolina-New Construction

We, the undersigned graduates of McCormick High School located in McCormick, South Carolina, hereby petition the McCormick County School District Board, Superintendents, Registered Voters and School Planning Committee to take action to ensure that the needs of the residents and children of McCormick County are fully supported with the erection of a newly constructed high school.

As we embark on the 21st century, it is imperative that our children are afforded every opportunity to discover their true potential so that they may fully walk in destiny and purpose. They are our future American voters, parents, civic leaders, economic reformers, politicians, artists, musicians, healthcare workers, researchers, global and civil rights activists, CEOs, CFOs, pastors, evanglists, etc. But more importantly they are the light of hope for the generations that will follow them. With this knowing, we are placed in very delicate situation here. We can either choose to be as oxygen to that light and allow it to burn as bright and for as long as it can or we can be like water and quench the flame before its given an opportunity to glow. It is our hope and sincere prayer that the voting body will elect to fuel that light by voting YES to a new high school.

The industrial and agricultural working class jobs that once offered sufficient familial support in McCormick county is steadily declining. With the increase in textile plant closings and layoffs, it is clear to see that there is a major shift in economic climate in America. Additionally, white and blue collar entry level jobs now require a higher level of competency which includes effective troubleshooting, time management, computer, customer service, communication, critical thinking, and teamwork skills. Therefore, it our civic duty to prepare our children for this shift by giving them access to a high-quality education. However, we are at a great disadvantage in doing so when the learning environment is not conducive to learning, lack appeal, and ill equipped with supplemental teaching tools. Yet by a majority vote of YES to a new high school, we can change that in an instant an offer our children an opportunity to maximize their economic possibilities. Additionally, it will afford them the opportunity to reach their fullest potential.

It has been said that children do not care to know what you know until they know that you truly care about them. Therefore, we need to show that we care before we can educate them effectively. By taking this big bold visible step towards a new high school, we can effectively and unanimously let our children know that we care about them and their childrens children. Likewise, it will show them that we are willing to sow a seed of love into their lives because we know they will bring forth new life into this community, nation, and world. And lastly, it lets them know that we truly believe in the foundation in which McCormick High School standswhich is simply stated as:

Good, Better, Best

Never Let It Rest

Until Good is Better

And Better is Best

We all know that the current condition of the McCormick High School is not at its best. Therefore, it is our duty to uphold our motto and to continue to press forward towards the mark of excellence. We all have fond memories of McCormick High School as it stands today. Although the old structure will be missed, we understand that the future of our children is far more important than any memories we shared there. We call upon our children daily to be successful in life. Let us lead by example and show them what success looks like. For Marianne Williamson said it best, Success means we go to sleep at night knowing that our talents and abilities were used in a way that served others. Not only do we have the ability to vote yes to a NEW school, we have the talent to make the best NEW McCormick High School there could ever be.

Therefore, without further delay, join us in serving our children by voting YES to a NEW McCormick High School!
