Program Modernization









Dear Students and McGill Staff Members,









The acclaimed McGill University is known for its quality of education and its ability to produce the best students within every field. However as I am coming to the end of my bachelors degree I fear the fate of the generations to come. I have been informed, quite recently, that the Dean of McGill Universitys Faculty of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences coupled with other Faculty members have created a movement refer to as Program Modernization geared to rearranging all the programs offered at MacDonald Campus. Although I am not apposed to idea of changing around certain programs as to increase popularity and thus increase class sizes, I have a very strong objection to the idea of eliminating the Microbiology Major program. The microbiology Major program at MacDonald Campus produces students that are ideal for research in regards to work in both industry and academics. This is a very strong program that should NOT be changed. I feel and I am hoping that many of you will agree, that already the programs popularity has been damaged by eliminating the Department of Microbiology but now by eliminating the Major itself will basically eliminate many potential students as well as reduce many opportunities to students graduating from the program. A bachelors degree stating Microbiology Major is much more appealing to employers than a transcript stating Bioscience and Biotechnology minor in Microbiology. Time and time again I am already running into colleagues whom I started University with and who constantly state that they regret not going into the Microbiology Program; I will leave the question of why these students did not realize this amazing major was offered.









I plan on doing everything within my power to show that the Microbiology Major program at MacDonald Campus is important to all students. Please take the few minutes to fill out this petition so that we can try to show how big of an impact eliminating the Microbiology Program will be.
