There is ONE wild monkey in Pasir Ris residential area of Singapore.
It is a juvenile and it seems to be alone. It basically lives in the nearby park and forest but occasionally wonders down a river into the residential area of Pasir Ris.
Some residents have taken to this monkey and began feeding it. THIS IS the CAUSE of the problem. The juvenile monkey has associated humans with food
and now spend more time in the residential area than in the forest.
The Singapore AVA has been called in to capture and remove the monkey.
Our petition to AVA ( Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority )of Singapore is that monkeys are not only found in the zoo. Wild monkeys should be allowed to live in the forest and children should see wild monkeys in the wild.
Pasir Ris is great nature area and has many wild life coming and going.
These include monitor lizards, cranes, snakes, turles, fishes and now a lone monkey.
The monkey is NOT part of a aggressive herd and does no harm.
Residents should take pride in having such wild life so close to us.
This is the foundation for co-existence with nature.
Show your support and urge that this lone monkey be allowed to stay.
Residence and children in the area can learn first-hand about living with nature.
