This petition is to show our Senators and Representatives that we as citizens want them to vote in favor of lowering the National Guard and Reserve retirement age from 60 to age 55. The Senate vote on S.Amdt. 1811 to S. 1689 (Emergency Supplemental Appropriations for Iraq and Afghanistan Security and Reconstruction Act, 2004) was against doing so with 49-47 the final count. It is also remarkable that the vote of 49-47 had only three Republican votes in favor, when the vast majority of the military members themselves are Republican. *** To see the official vote please go to the following site: http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=108&session=1&vote=00381 *** The National Guard and Armed Forces Reserves is a major player in our worldwide affairs. Just in this past year Guardsman and Reservists have deployed just as much if not more than their Active Duty counter parts. How is it fair that the Department of Defense uses them so much and then denies them the ability to get their retirement at the age of 55 when Active Duty personnel can collect upon the completion of 20 years of service with no age requirements? I hope the Congressmen and women remember this come voting time.
