I believe that all people should have access to higher education and the benefits thereof such as increased employment opportunities and an improved quality of life.

Laws that prohibit people from receiving federal financial aid based on past drug convictions discriminate against the poor, the working class and communities of color whom constitute the majority of persons with past drug convictions.

I understand that the mission of the California State Student Aid Commission (CSAC) is to make education beyond high school financially accessible to all Californians.

I urge CSAC to offset the inaccessibility of federal financial aid by setting aside funds for California students that are ineligible for federal financial aid due to drug convictions.
