Newington High School Philosophy Club

I sent in the request for this club a little over three months ago, harassed all the necessary people, and finally, after not getting ANY response by the administration, have been told we cannot have a club.

Why? Because there is no more school funding, and although we technically don't NEED the funding, it's required.

Despite this, we have new tacky sign in front of our school, and the police officer has been given a new GMC Yukon. These purchases are neither cheap nor required.

The funding needed is $200. I HAVE the $200. I was told by Mr. Wenker that he cannot accept this money because, "Well... I don't think we can... You can meet next year, though!" There is no rule that says we cannot use fundraised money for a club, and I feel that many people, myself included, would be upset if this club couldn't happen.

I was told we need to wait until next year and pretty much cross our fingers for funds that we DON'T really need. I can understand that we're not in the best of economic times, but I would be glad to give THEM the money to give US.

To put it nicely, I'm really angry. Everything had been organized, plans and discussion topics had been mapped out for the whole year, and I was just waiting on our administration to make us official. To add insult to injury, it took them about three months to reject me.

I plan on challenging the administration on this because I feel like I have been ignored, and because I'm upset at where our tax payer money has gone.

In the mean time, I'm going to be writing a letter to the Board of Education. Even if we do not have a Philosophy Club, I'd be happy to at least have someone apologize, sympathize, or see my point.

If I'm successful, I'll let you all know when we're meeting, but if I'm not, there will be a Philosophy Club next year.
