No caste based quota in IIT's and IIM's

I dont know whether to cry or laugh sarcastically.. at this new ploy of Indian Government .. to appease the SC/ST Vote Bank. There are few things which we, people as an Indian Citizen are proud off. And IIT's and IIM's are one of them.
These are world class institutions which have build there brand over the last 50 years of there establishment. Now what the Government wants to do. It wants to increase the quota for SC/ST s to 50 \% in these institutes.
How this will effect these institutes.. Simple it lowers the credibility of these institutes when 50\% of the students are selected not on merit. It destroys the Brand which these institutes have built over the years on basis of its Alumni. It lowers the morel of the students slogging for getting into these institutes.
Only some days back we have heard stories of students getting fat salaries passing from these institutes. Will the recruiters have the same faith in these institutes when they know that every second student is selected not on merit but on caste?
The faculty of these institutes should come out in open if they want to save these institutes from becoming the playground of caste based politics which have already done much harm to Indian society in general.
There are many other ways, the government can do to better the conditions of the students from the backward caste. But this should not be the way.
It is high time we should tell the government to give more autonomy and not interfere in process of Admissions and Recruiting Faculty of these institutes.
