No Military Co-op In Our Schools

Money for Education, Not for War!

This is a petition to keep the military reserve co-op out of our schools.
On Wednesday, June 7 the Greater Essex County District School Board (GECDSB) will be voting on whether to introduce a paid military reserve co-op program into our schools. We are calling for the community, especially the students, to be given a say in what happens in the schools.
The military wants to introduce this co-op to recruit young people in order to fulfill the governments targets of increasing the number of reserves by 10,000 and the number of soldiers by 14,000 within 5 years.
They are using the co-op to recruit, offering $2500 in pay (which is against board policy), health and dental benefits (which are actually only during the time that you are at the co-op building), a guaranteed summer job in the army and 4 school credits.
This is very similar to the practice in the U.S. where young people are bribed and misinformed to join the military in order to be sent to Iraq and Afghanistan to kill people.
This is happening while tuition is increasing for colleges and universities, our schools are under funded and there are few jobs in the Windsor area. In other words, there is millions for the army, while there are few resources to help youth have a future. Lets change this!
We dont want our schools to be used to recruit so Canada can illegally occupy other countries and participate in Bushs wars!
