No more cruel animal testing

The Humane Cosmetics Act -- which would ban animal cosmetic testing in the U.S. -- has been re-introduced in the House. It’s time to pass this bill and save countless animals from being used in tortuous and unnecessary experiments.

Animals used in cosmetic testing are subjected to excruciatingly painful procedures. And when the testing is over, they are typically killed by decapitation, neck-breaking, or asphyxiation.

In one of these cosmetic tests, rats are forced to breath in a substance to test if it’s toxic. The animals often experience seizures, paralysis, bleeding, and convulsions. Most die within fourteen days of being exposed to the substance.

In another horrific test, pregnant rabbits and rats are force-fed a toxic substance throughout their pregnancy. The animal is killed on the day before they’re supposed to give birth. Researchers then extract their babies and test them for developmental abnormalities.

“The cruelty animals are subjected to during cosmetics testing is unacceptable—from lethal dose tests to irritation and force-feeding tests. Not only are these tests inhumane, but modern technology makes them unnecessary and overly expensive,” said Representative McSally, one of the bill’s co-sponsors, in a press release.

More than 30 countries around the world have banned the sale of cosmetics that are tested on animals.  Now, it’s time for the United States to follow suit. Sign this petition to tell Congress to pass the Humane Cosmetics Act and finally stop the suffering.
