No More Preemptive War

Dear Mr. George W. Bush,
Dear Senators, Congressmen and Congresswomen of the United States of America:

We express our gravest concerns against political establishments and statements that appear to be orchestrated to justify a new war and tragic human consequences by preemptive military attacks on Iran. The vast majority of Irans 70 million plus population, including many women and children, yearn for the same aspirations for life as the people in America or other places in the world.


The resort to military force in response to political slogans fail at addressing the real issues. Military solutions may appear tempting when confronted with complex and often frustrating geopolitical scenarios. These often lead to unforeseen and tragic consequences as recently observed with the preemptive war in Iraq. The people of Iran or any other country should be distinguished from politics and rhetoric of their governments. The tendency to view Iranians, or any nation, as political abstractions and propaganda targets is associated with a lack of appreciation of their lives as human beings.

As other nations, many Iranians are passionate advocates of justice, democracy, equity, and freedom. Iranian children do not deserve war and blood-shed under the name of preemptive war, nor did Iraqi children. To date, over 2,000 American soldiers and many thousands Iraqi people, including many children, have died or become permanently disabled as a consequence of preemptive war in Iraq. We should not let another similar human tragedy happen in Iran or in any other place on the face of our planet in the 21st century.
