DEAR N.Y.S. DIVISION OF PAROLE AND ELECTED OFFICIALS
We the below signed citizens of New York State and The United States of America respectfully request that any and all parole considerations that are going to be given to Anthony Bottom and Herman Bell be denied. The assassination of a Police Officer cannot be forgiven!
On May 21, 1971, Police Officers Waverly Jones and Joseph Piagentini were ambushed while making a routine radio call at the Colonial Park Houses in Harlem. According to reports Officer Jones, 32, was dead before he hit the ground from a fuselage of bullets to the back of his head. Officer Piagentini,27, was also shot from behind died in route to the hospital from 22 bullet wounds. The 2 convicted BLA [Black Liberation Army] members, Bottom and Bell were given the maximum sentence for that time of 25 years to life on May 12, 1975.
There can be no leniency for such a cowardly and horrific act of violence. No good can come from letting these men walk the streets as free men. 2 Police Officers lives were taken and these two men should never be allowed to see freedom again!
We the undersigned citizens of New York State and The United States of America ask you our elected and appointed officials to see that justice for Police Officers Jones and Piagentini is carried on and that any and all parole requests be denied for the life of these two men.
