Non-Stoners for Legalization of Marijuana

This petition is for the purpose of letting people know that not everyone who supports marijuana legalization smokes the stuff. I do not smoke pot and have no desire to, but I clearly see the benefits to legalization.

Marijuana is less dangerous than alcohol and tobacco-- two legal drugs that kill hundreds of thousands of people every year. It's been proven to have medicinal uses and provides relief to people dealing with severe pain and complications from cancer and chemotherapy. Marijuana is illegal because of a campaign to imprison minorities who smoked it and to keep hemp from taking over the wood paper industry. Hundreds of thousands of non-violent people are arrested and jailed every year for possession of marijuana and is putting a burden on America's legal system.

If marijuana were legalized and taxed, it would free up our crowded prisons and make room for more dangerous criminals like murderers, rapists, and robbers. And it would provide a much needed source of revenue to our faltering economy.

I'm sure if the government knew that not everyone who supports legalization of marijuana uses it, they would consider reforming our unjust laws against a relatively safe substance.

Hopefully, this petition will make a difference and prove to everyone that marijuana legalization is an initiative supported by users and non-users alike.
