North American Release of "Front Mission 5: Scars of the War"

Dear reader,

Imagine for a moment, if you will please, that Homer's "The Iliad" was never translated to English. That "War & Peace" is left to be read only in it's native tongue and what we as American's can only read(unless you know another language), are the books that big companies approve and are translated for us.

While the aforementioned scenario may seem ludicrous and far fetched, this sort of thing actually is done all the time. Except in another media format: Video games. For years the industry in video games has decided what we as American's may or may not play in these United States. While in some cases this isn't so bad(i.e. A-Train series), some of the most groundbreaking or innovative games have never seen the light of day here in America. All because a company has decided that a games too quirky, or to tied to social mores and taboo's that American's wouldn't understand it. Plenty of excuses exist that companies have stated over the years as to why certain games will not see a U.S. release.

Some of these games though have been heralded as masterpieces for that generation of console they appeared on. Not surprisingly, a lot of them were from you at Square/Enix. You at Square brought us FF VI and Crono Trigger, but denied us Secret of Mana 3, Romancing the Saga, and Front Mission 1 & 2. Those whom had come to Square from Enix brought us such gems as E.V.O. and Actraiser, yet refused to bring Terranigma to the U.S. The strangest thing of all is after reading about and playing these games that never came out in the U.S., I can't figure out how these games wouldn't have done well in the U.S. had they been released here. You would've had to try to encourage people not to have bought these titles for them to have sold poorly, thats how incredible these games were for their time.

Now I fear that some at Square-Enix may be wishing to repeat the same mistake. Recently all major game retailers and gaming website/e-zines have moved the release date of "Front Mission 5:Scars of the War" from March to Japan only. I understand there had been no official word on the games release in the N.A. region from you at Square-Enix directly, but I believe most assumed it would be translated since after depriving American's of the frist two "Front Mission" games and then releasing the 3rd and 4th chapters was a pretty good indication that you'd changed your minds. Now it seems they've been changed again, for the worse.

Now that the "Front Mission" series has gotten the attention it deserves, "Front Mission 5:Scars of the War" is a full on block-buster title with human character models that rival Konami's "Metal Gear" engine and mechs that blow away anything in Agetec's "Armored Core" series. Coupled with an engrossing story line, as in all "Front Mission" games, this is surely "Greatest Hits" material.

Therefore, it is the intention of the undersigned to take it upon themselves to try to appeal to you, the people at Square-Enix of North America, to please make plans to release this epic masterpiece, "Front Mission 5: Scars of the War". Before it joins the exclusive ranks of "Japan only" gaming history. It is also true of the undersigned that if this title is officially announced, we have every intention to pre-order and subsequently purchase this title upon release. We hope you will hear and hearken to our cause, thank you for you time.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
