In keeping with the Highway of Heroes in Southern Ontario, we the people of Northern Ontario wish to pay our respects to our fallen by designating the intersection of Algonquin and Hwy 17 (Hwy 11 & 17) in their honour. The naming of this junction, with appropriate signage, is to be the вNorthern Heroes Gatewayв. Our brave northern Ontario heroes have a long journey home to their final resting place, communities have assembled on the sides of the lonely highways and the streets of our neighborhoods to pay tribute to a soldiers selfless act of bravery; we believe it would be a fitting memorial to ensure that their memory lives on, not only in our hearts but in our community.
This memorial, at a common crossroad in Northern Ontario will serve as a constant reminder to residents and visitors that travel through this beautiful province and city. These brave men and women must not and cannot be forgotten. The Northern Heroes Gateway will signify the crossroad in their journey. Courageous men and women who have sacrificed so much can continue on through this crossroad, only to watch over their comrades and loved ones in peace at their final resting place.
We will remember them.
