We hereby petition Dr. Ernie Fletcher, Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, to alter the punishment for Ralph Baze by sentencing him to prison, rather than executing him on Tuesday, September 25, 2007. We recognize and abhor the crime for which he was sentenced to death, but we and most Kentuckians are turning away from executions as an appropriate punishment. We believe that execution is not only immoral, but it serves no deterrent or social purpose, is increasingly expensive and is irreversible. Mistakes cannot be corrected.
