As a member of the community of millions of Iranian immigrants and refugees scattered all over the European continent, either fallen apart from their homelands or having been born in Europe into Iranian families, may I ask for your kind attention to the following points:
1. upon the fact that the policy of European states towards the non-European communities is to integrate their colorful cultural traditions and festivities, with the aim of enriching the cultural multiplicity of this ancient and colorful continent,
2. and due to the fact that the non-European communities of this continent would also wish to preserve their cheerful traditions and festivities and, thus, facilitated their integration and strengthen their relationships with their new adobes,
I would like to get your attention to one of the most important Iranian traditions that actually has its roots in ancient Indo-European culture. "Nowruz" is one of the most ancient and revered festivities of the Iranian people. It is coincided with the advent of the spring and is considered as the "true" New Year. For such occasion, Iranians have one of the most exciting and colorful cultural packages.
These festivities that takes place during the span of two to three weeks, begin on the last Tuesday eve of the old year and entails kindling small fire heaps and jumping over them, singing traditional songs and dancing all through the night. Then, on the moment when the planet Earth enters into the spring section of its orbit around the Sun, on either 20th or 21st of March, the Iranian New Year begins. They welcome the advent of spring and the arrival of New Year by total cleaning of their houses, wearing new outfits, throwing parties, visiting each-other's houses and giving presents. These festivities come to a happy ending on April 1st, when everybody goes to outside green locations such as parks and riversides. This is a day of games, songs and dances.
These festivities are not delimited to the present day Iran and are observed in a vast region that covers Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kurdistan in four countries, Turkey, Azerbaijan and many Central Asian communities.
Many states, including the United States of America, have recognized the Iranian New Year as a national holiday of celebration in which the whole population can share the festivities of a part of its fabric. On that day, the heads of states, including the president of the USA, issue congratulation messages for the advent of the spring and the new year.
We humbly ask that the European Union consider recognizing the Iranian New Year too and let the people interested in such festivities observe them with the cooperation of their local authorities, sharing their traditional days of joy with their neighbors in their host countries.
If this proposal gains your attention, I would full-heartedly introduce many Iranian scholars in history and culture who would be more than happy to cooperate with the EU in consideration of details and planning.

With regards
