Oak Knoll School Site Plan

We appreciate the efforts of the Site Planning Committee, the District Facility Committee, and the Board of Education to create a development plan for Oak Knoll Elementary School that addresses the criteria set forth by the Board. We understand this project has been a challenge, but we prefer Plan J as an alternative Plan F, the plan recommended by the Site Planning Committee and supported by most members of the Board at the last meeting. We all want what is best for our children. We believe that Plan J continues to meet the educational and operational needs of the school, mitigates the impact on neighbors, and is better suited to the unique, residential character of the school. Please support Plan J as a superior plan to meet the compatible needs of the school and neighborhood.
Plan J has fresh, new, student-friendly ideas.
New one-story classrooms for 1st and 2nd grade students group lower grade students together.
Upper grade students are located near the new multipurpose room designed for their unique educational needs.
Plan J has minimal effect on Vine Street.
The staff parking lot off Vine Street remains at twenty-nine spaces.
The landscaped easement and grade separation buffers the new multipurpose building.
Plan J is more neighborhood and community friendly.
Inviting green space at the front of the school welcomes afterschool and weekend activity for students and community members.
Single-story classrooms blend-in with existing buildings and reduce the impact of the new construction for Oak Avenue residents.
The proposed parking lot off Oak Avenue, which would exacerbate already unsafe traffic conditions on Oak Avenue, is eliminated, and additional parking is added to the existing parking lot off Oak Knoll Lane.
The beautiful heritage Oak trees are saved.
Plan J offers consensus.
Plan J addresses the educational needs of Oak Knoll students by providing a consolidated recreation area that maximizes play space and enhances student safety and by conveniently grouping together upper grade facilities.
Plan J addresses our community needs by reasonably mitigating negative impacts on neighbors and community and by aesthetically reflecting the values and perspectives of the community.
