I propose that Nokia provide a release data for the Nokia N900 handset in Australia. Australia is a developed market, with terrestrial mobile phone networks (GSM and WCDMA) reaching over 98 per cent of the population and cover 20 per cent of the Australian landmass (source: Australian Mobile Telecommunications Association). Further, Australia ranks 8th in the world for E-readiness (E-readiness is the state of play of a countrys information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure and the ability of its consumers, businesses and governments to use ICT to their benefits. - source Australian Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy). In 2006, it scored 8.5, just behind Finland who is in 7th spot with a socre of 8.55. Of the 7 other countries above Australia, 4 have access to the N900 for pre-order.
But the most important reason for the high interest in this particular handset in Australia is that it is technological breakthrough in many aspects, bringing functionality to its form factor not available from any other vendor. Austrlians love "gadgets", and I think this product will sell particularly well in the Australian market. It doesn't have to be available at the same time as the other markets, but a statement from Nokia on when it will be available would be gratefully received.
