One EID Petition - SF Bay Area

We, the undersigned, acknowledge the hard work and dedication provided by the leadership of all the various Muslim organizations in the Bay Area. These individuals take time out from their private lives and busy schedules to work for the community and the Masajid. Our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to them for their continued efforts.
At the same time, we will like to voice our severe disappointment and anguish with the leaderships of ALL these local organizations that - time and again have divided our local Muslim community in the Bay Area; on the most important religious occasions of the year. For example, this year many local Masajid and communities celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr on Tuesday while others celebrated on Wednesday. The leadership at each community feels that they are right and are unwilling to sit down with the other communities to come up with a unified way of deciding on the most important Muslim religious holidays. This is unacceptable!
This is a grass-roots campaign. We are requesting leaderships of ALL local Muslim organizations to work together and come up with a way to have Eids and the Muslim calendar unified for the local Muslim community here. Either convince the other side of your position, or be convinced, or work towards a compromise. We should not have another Eid where the local Muslim community is divided.
We petition that before Eid-ul-Azha (November 2011), all local Muslim organizations should get together and publicly come out with a plan to ensure that in the future the entire local Muslim community will have Eid on the same day. If leaderships fail to act by Eid-ul-Azha, then we pledge to withhold donations to ALL these organizations till they sort out this issue.
