Lieutenant Governor of the State of Maryland
The Honorable Thomas V. Mike Miller, Jr., President
Maryland State Senate
The Honorable Michael E. Busch, Speaker
House of Delegates
We, the undersigned, being residents in the vicinity of the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium wish to express our strong opposition to the installation of slot machines or other gambling devices at the Fairgrounds. Traffic is a major consideration. Access to the Fairgrounds is either by Timonium or Padonia Roads and both of these roads are near failing intersections during those times when no events are scheduled at the Fairgrounds. The installation of gambling devices will serve to exacerbate and intensify an already intolerable traffic condition.
The Maryland State Fairgrounds is one of the oldest in the nation. It has traditionally been used for agricultural events, 4H activities and other family oriented shows and exhibits. To the credit of its Board of Governors, these activities and this family atmosphere have been maintained for many years. We wholeheartedly support the Board but believe that the presence of slot machines will have a deleterious affect.
