Opposition to Republic Airport Expansion

Our organization (Concerned Citizens of the Plainview-Old Bethpage Community, Inc.) and the undersigned, adamantly oppose the Republic Airport Commissions Resolution to expand the distance between Taxiway B and Runway 1/19 from 200 to 400 feet to better accommodate large Design Group CIII aircraft which includes 200,000 lb 727 jets.
REPUBLIC AIRPORT DOES NOT HAVE an APPROVED UPDATED MASTER PLAN and HAS NOT COMPLETED the required ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT with all of the associated PUBLIC COMMENT. Clearly the Republic Airport Commission is CIRCUMVENTING THE PROCESS and EXCLUDING the PUBLICs VOICE with a vote on this Resolution scheduled for JUNE 14, 2005.
Long Island is the home to Islip-Macarthur Airport only a few miles from Farmingdale and does not warrant an expansion at Republic Airport for another take-off/landing location for large Design Group CIII aircraft. Currently, Republic Airport is a General Aviation Design Group CII facility and not intended for Design Group CIII. Republic Airport must accept all types of aircraft it has the capacity to handle. Therefore, this proposed change in infrastructure would increase the capacity of the facility to regularly accommodate Design Group CIII aircraft.
Please intervene immediately, on behalf of the thousands of affected residents, to thwart this unnecessary expansion with the associated significant increase in noise, air pollution, storage of additional quantities of Jet A fuel, and increased traffic along major arteries and peripheral routes to the airport.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this injustice to the public process.
