Petition addressed to Lantos Foundation
19 Pleasant Street, 2nd Floor Concord,
New Hampshire 03301
We, the undersigned, being active members of Groupe des Anciens Etudiants Rescapés du Génocide (GAERG), an association of Graduate students survivors of Genocide perpetrated against Tutsi, in collaboration with our sympathizers, would like to inform you of the following:
Mr. Paul Rusesabaginas fame came only in December 2004, when Hotel Rwanda, a Hollywood type movie inspired by a history of science fiction and invented from scratch, hit the world of movies. However, Mr Rusesabagina Paul did not save any Tutsi from being killed in 1994 because: firstly, he arrived in the Hotel one week after the genocide had began (16th April 1994). Secondly, he came in as employee of Sabena and started to charge refugees for the stay or sent out those who did not have the money. Thirdly, the Hotel Milles Collines was protected by UNAMIR, as the French army had its communication base in the 5th Floor. For more on this, please refer to testimonies of Milles Collines Survivors gathered in a book Hotel Rwanda or The Tutsi Genocide as seen by Hollywood.
In addition to this, Mr. Paul Rusesabagina whom you intend to honor by awarding him a prize on 16th November 2011, is one of the staunchest supporters of FDLR, a terrorist organization whose members participated in the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi, and which continues up to this day to kill people and rape women in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Leaders of this organization are undergoing court trials in Germany and at the International Criminal Court (ICC).
In Rwanda Paul Rusesabagina is not recognized as a hero. For most Rwandans, he is regarded in all perspectives as an usurper, an impostor who peddles and spreads the genocide ideology, and this is justified by the numerous declarations which he makes in conferences around the world.
We would like to suggest that you carry out a deep and thorough investigation in Rwanda, especially among genocide survivors who were at the Hotel des Milles Collines before awarding a prize to Paul Rusesabagina, otherwise you could be making a huge mistake.
It is in this regard that we, active members of GAERG,and for the memory of our beloved parents, brothers, sisters and relatives who perished in the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi, implore the Lantos Foundation not to rush in honoring Mr. Paul Rusesabagina, because we strongly beleive that such an action could extensively affect the noble values which otherwise mark your organization, as an institution normally regarded and known to be a champion in the protection of human rights.
