PETITION FOR BETTER ROADS FOR SAMAR ISLAND

We encourage our fellow Samarnons, friends and colleagues to please SUPPORT this Petition by signing (adding) your name, address and email below (scroll all the way down) and then COPY and PASTE to new email message and SEND to friends and associates who support our cause AND KINDLY COPY FURNISH [email protected]> to enable us maintain a trail. We will submit this list to the national government with copy to the local government at the end of our campaign, which will be September 30, 2006.

The roads in the Island of Samar are entirely destroyed. They are beyond broken and they are treacherous. They have caused serious harm, injury and death to countless citizens of this 3-province island over several
decades as a direct result of accidents on these roads and/or as a result of critically ill people heading to hospitals for emergency treatment and not making it because of the road conditions.

A woman traveling on a motorcycle with her husband was thrown off the cycle when it hit a rut and she went flying off to her death; buses traversing from side to side avoiding ruts unwittingly veer toward one another crashing head-on and killing countless people; children heading home from school hit by vehicles; jeepneys weighed down with passengers on its roofs hit a bump and people fall off onto the roads and down cliffs to their deaths. A well known attorney from Calbayog City, having suffered a heart attack was crushed to the only hospital that could give him hope in Tacloban, but it took five hours to travel the 120km stretch (should have taken 2 hours) and he died en route.

Besides the countless deaths and bodily injuries that maim or paralyze, these roads have caused tremendous economic hardships on the citizens of this 3-province island for decades, resulting in this Island becoming a permanent fixture in the list of the poorest provinces in the Philippines!

Samarnons cannot make a decent living with this hellish road conditions and we have been living at the very bottom of the economic heap, living as though we were in the dark ages, we cannot even attract tourists to
experience and explore the wonders and beauty of the island.

The people of the Island of Samar are MAD AS HELL AND WE ARE NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANY MORE. WE DEMAND FIRST CLASS ROADS AND BRIDGES FOR THE ENTIRE ISLAND OF SAMAR NOW. WHAT ARE WE IN POWER FOR.

We are asking trucking companies, bus companies, businesses that conduct business in the Island of Samar or use the island of Samar as a land bridge between Luzon and Mindanao such as the San Miguels, the Caltexes, the Shells, to join the people of the Island of Samar to express outrage and demand good first class roads and bridges and let us cut the cost of doing business in the Island of Samar. Please sign this petition.

We are asking our national and local officials to join the people of the Island of Samar, your constituents, in expressing outrage and demand good first class roads and bridges. Please sign this petition

We are asking all NGOs, LSUs, to join this battle for first class roads for Samar Island. That is how we fight poverty! All our projects are meaningless, if we cannot get the products of our livelihood to market in time. Please sign this petition.

We are asking students from all over the Philippines, but particularly those in the Island of Samar, to enjoin (engage) in this outrage yell and scream and express your frustration and anger at the hell roads of Samar Island. Please sign this petition.

We are asking our friends in the media to express outrage with the Samarnons. Please sign this petition.

We are asking the churches of every religion to join the outcry. Scream with us and seek our freedom from the shackles imposed on us by these hellish roads. Please sign this petition.

We are asking barangay captains from all over the Island of Samar to be one with your constituents express your outcry at the hellish roads and demand good first class roads and bridge. Please sign this
petition.

We are asking every single member of the community in the entire stretch of the Island of Samar to join the outcry and sign this petition.

(Note that a caravan is planned to travel the route from Calbiga to Calbayog City on Otober 17, 2006. If you are interested to learn about this caravan, please send empty email to [email protected]> with subject Caravan, NOW NA!)
