Petition to add a Bus Stop to The Rapid (28) 28th Street Eastbound route at the intersection of 28th Street and Kraft in Grand Rapids, Michigan

Businesses on 28th Street that are East of Art Van are missing a population of people who do not shop at their stores or participate in business services in that area because the last stop on the (#28 Route) 28th Street Eastbound bus only goes as far as the Art Van Furniture Store. The problems that are a result of the lack of bus service going to the 28th Street and Kraft intersection are:
There are riders of The Rapid that must walk from the Art Van bus stop to various businesses to get to work or lose hours due to not being available for evening shift hours because of lack of transportation.
Safety is of great concern as there is no sidewalk where some of the employed bus riders walk in order to get to their jobs. Distracted drivers could easily hit someone as the bus riders either walk in the street or in the grass from the Art Van bus stop.
Some riders walk so far that they are walking under the I-96 overpass which is extremely dark and secluded. This has caused some incidents of assault including objects being thrown at bus riders walking from the last bus stop at Art Van, sexual assaults, comments being yelled at them from drivers in cars, etc.
Businesses would benefit from the bus stop being added in that they would have more reliable employees due to less absences and tardiness caused by transportation issues. Businesses would also benefit by increasing their sales with more people having access to the area stores.
Persons would benefit from increased options for employment, education, and various other services offered in the area. Some people have been unable to attend training programs offered in the area to increase their skills and make themselves more marketable for employment due to the lack of bus service in the area.

We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens who urge our city bus line, The Rapid and Cascade Township to act now and Add a bus stop to The Rapid (#28) 28th Street Eastbound route at the intersection of 28th Street and Kraft
