We request that your office investigate the proposed massive service cuts at Alameda County Medical Center. The Hospital Authority who manages this public institution has hired consultants to downsize this facility. They have proposed enormous cuts in services, which providers contend will compromise patient care and safety, and potentially the viability of the medical center. The plan they have made public does not include risk management or patient safety measures or monitoring.
The proposed massive cuts will certainly affect service and safety. The public and patients of this facility have a right to know about the proposed radical cuts.
In the interest of public safety we respectfully request that your office perform an independent assessment of the proposed downsizing of this medical facility to determine how patient safety and services will be impacted and whether the county of Alameda is meeting all legal obligations with regard to indigent care.
